Nic Fanciulli, Welcome to DigiLove! How are you doing and where abouts in the world are you now?
Very well thank you. We’re currently on the Saved Records N/S America tour, and i recently moved to LA, its nice to be in the sun.
You have been a huge part of the EDM scene for quite some time… How was it you got started? What was your first break?
It all probably started when i was given my first residency at a club in my home town. I was lucky enough to warm up for DJs like Carl Cox and Pete Tong at a really young age and things progressed and progressed from there!
Could you tell us one brief story that you remember from your early career that represents what it was like to be someone trying to make it in the biz?
Wow early career this makes me sound old!! When I was breaking through it was more about the DJing than the production. The main reasons why people would want to come and see you is that you always had certain records that no one had, so this would cause a buzz on a certain DJ. I remember always being blown away by Lee Burridge as he had the most upfront music.
Obviously you have come along way in the past ten years! During the past decade, how have you seen the EDM scene change across the world? Has that impacted your approach?
The main difference i can see now is the emphasis on producing. It’s near enough become impossible to become recognized as a talented DJ without productions to back you up.
DJing all around the world you have been around a lot of other DJ’s…Who are your favorite artists to work with? And if you could who would you like to work with? Who’s the best airport lounge companion?
The one thing i would say with this job is that you get to meet lots of great talented people. For me, as a friend, i would have to say James Zabiela, as much as we are different we compliment each other with music and he’s a lot of fun to hang out with. At the moment im enjoying making and playing music with Joris Voorn. If there was someone else i could work with, it would have to be Laurent Garnier.
Now something I have to ask from the Digi10vers… Do you have any new or exclusive tracks that you are going to release in the near future?
I’m working on some really exciting projects at the moment. I’ve just started to think about releasing my artist album, as well as ongoing collaborations with Tiefshwarz, Rolando and a remix for Gregor Tresher.
