[Show Recap] Steve Aoki’s Birthday Bash at The Shrine LA 11/21/12November 27th, 2012 ⋅ Events ⋅ by DigiFritz
Only a select few in the realm of dance music have been lucky enough to celebrate their birthday with a headlining event, not to mention it being put on by Insomniac, the biggest and best when it comes to promotion and parties. Steve Aoki can definitely add his name to the list, as his birthday bash was just that- a BASH. Deep in the heart of Los Angeles, near the University of Southern California campus, Aoki and special guests from his record label Dim Mak performed in front of a massive Shrine Auditorium crowd. Not one act disappointed. Insomniac and Dim Mak went all out for this party, with lasers, balloons, confetti, and eight different birthday cakes, all for Aoki to smash in the faces of adoring fans. Known as one of the most exciting DJs in the business, this show was no different for Mr. Aoki and a special hometown crowd.
The night was filled with special guest appearances, like Autoerotique, who opened up the night. Setting the tempo high and rocking hard with every track, he was followed by special guest Dirtyphonics, who did not skip one beat, keeping the crowd pulsing with each hard-hitting bass line.
Next special guest was Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, spinning a banging set before joining Aoki on stage, while he dropped their new single Phat Brahms feat. Aoki and Anger Dimas. Needless to say the packed Shrine was moving right along with the beat.
Closing off the evening was the birthday boy himself, Mr. Steve Aoki. As he came out on stage with the crowd chanting his name and birthday wishes coming in on the video screen from Felix Cartal, Kill the Noise, and the Nervo Twins. Aoki followed that up by getting on the microphone claiming, “if i dont start playing, I’m going to cry.” Starting off hard with a live performance of his single Beat Down Feat. Iggy Azalea on the live vocals, the whole venue went off. Soon enough, the cake began to fly in true Aoki fashion, picking out members of the crowd and slamming cake into their face!
Later in the night, Wynter Gordon performed the classic Ladi Dadi live with Aoki, bringing the intense vocals as always. With an incredible production, including lasers, confetti, and and music videos, Insomniac lived up to their reputation, throwing an incredible party for an outstanding artist.
