PeaceTreaty Interview
September 20th, 2011 ⋅ by RyanGearing up to play Nocturnal Wonderland later this week, and having just completed a new remix for Diplo & Oliver Twizt, PeaceTreaty is only getting started. We got a chance to catch up with Josh and Angelo of PeaceTreaty to ask them about everything from the process in the studio, to their latest projects, and what’s in store in the future. Check out the interview below along with their latest remix GO by Diplo & Oliver Twizt which will be coming out soon. Enjoy.
Which programs and plugins are you using at the moment and what is it like to stay on top of the creative process?
JOSH: Right now we are using Logic as our primary DAW at the moment for all of our tracks. I just came out of using FL Studio a couple months ago, in which Angelo and I were both bouncing parts back and forth to complete tracks; which was pretty time consuming if you think about it since we couldnt rewire FL Studio into Logic or vise versa. I am very happy though that FL Studio and its team announced that they are beta testing their DAW for mac, which i cant wait for because I would love to go back and incorporate some little things we lost now that we switched to Logic. To give you a better detailed answered, basically i miss using a proper sequencer, drum sequencer to be exact, and fl studio, the DAW is one massive one that cannot be compared to any other drum machines out there. I believe anyways. I’m patiently waiting for that. As for plugins i would say we have been pushing Octopus, Sylenth1, and Organ 3. Thats mainly for our leads, bass, and other misc layering we add now. For effects plugins we are all over the Waves Bundle. Cant really name them all because we are always finding how to use one we havnt before. I love using the SPL Transient Designer from UAD on all of our drums to pull certain transients out.
Our go to compressor is The Glue and other then those we use Logic’s installed plugins because to simply put it, they are better then most plugins out there.
We heard Peace Treaty is releasing a Diplo remix, can you tell us about that?
ANGELO: We already have received support from Hardwell, Dj Chuckie, Benny Bennasi, Steve Aoki, and many more. This has been huge for us because it is now allowing us to work on a collab track with Oliver Twist sometime in the near future..he has been an awesome supporter. We have tested out the track and will continue to do so live until its official release and so far it has been doing well at the shows the fans really seem to enjoy it. The release is soon to be announced.
What artists do you guys want to work with, or remix, that you haven’t already?
JOSH: Oh man this is definitely a question that really cant be answered in this tiny paragraph but if I had to choose on the spot I would love to collab with Kaskade, Nicky Romero, Norman Doray, Thomas Gold, and FatBoy Slim on a track. Anyone of those dudes i would love to remix. We will be collaborating with some great artists for our album though. To give you some of those names, its: Oliver Twizt and Albin Myers.
Nocturnal Festival is coming up and you guys played Beyond Wonderland in March as well, what’s it like out there in San Bernadino and at these festivals?
ANGELO: The NOS center and Insomniac have hosted so many amazing events it’s an honor to be a part of these two…The crowd, energy, and vibes are always amazing. I can honestly say Beyond Wonderland was one of the largest shows we’ve ever played and it was a surreal moment to share main stage with artists such as Kaskade and Dirty South. We are extremely excited to play Nocturnal headlining a stage with all our fans. We definitely have some tricks up our sleeves and huge tracks we’ve been waiting to play. Its gonna be a good night full of good music from a lot of talented people.
What’s the most badass or unusual show you all have played so far?
JOSH: I would say the most “badass” gig we played was at Avalon last year, i believe in September for Control at Avalon, and we opened up for Major Lazer; which was nothing but crazy energy the whole night. I think that was their 2nd biggest crowd there on a Friday night which was over 3k if im not correct.
