EDC Dallas Shut Down

UPDATE: The Dallas County Medical Examiner says the person who died was 19-year-old Andrew James Graf of Argyle. Dallas Fire-Rescue originally said the deceased was a 15-year-old boy, but that appears to be an error on their part.

EDC Dallas was shut down this morning at about 1:30am when somebody finally pulled the fire alarm. During Excision’s set earlier in the night when a 15-year-old 19 year old died and more than two dozen others who were at the Electric Daisy Carnival at Fair Park were hospitalized because of drugs, alcohol and heat-related health problems, authorities said.  Below is Insomniac founder Pasquale Rotella’s statement on the situation.

DALLAS, June 19, 2011 — “Our condolences and deepest sympathy go out to the family and friends of the man who passed away tonight. To go from a moment of happiness and enjoyment, to the loss of life, is very heartbreaking. We would like to ask everyone to keep the concertgoer and his family in their thoughts and prayers. Along with the independent local promoters in Dallas, we will work with the authorities to understand how this tragedy occurred.”

Not sure how this is going to affect EDC Vegas next weekend, but it will be interesting to see how this turns out for Insomniac and the cities relationship.  This same incident is the reason why EDC is not in Los Angeles this year and why they have tried to implement the 18+ rule.  Please party responsibly digilovers.

    No, its not. There are other parties world wide that pull more than 160,000 people, ie Love Fest, Tomorrowland, Mysteryland, Most of the Q-Dance & Bass Events parties, etc. It is however, one of the biggest parties in the US.

    Honestly this is very sad. Here in El Paso, Texas we have many raves, nothing like this has happened. I’m not say learn how to party, know your tolerance, and learn how to handle your drugs/alcohol, but learn to be responsible. The sad thing is it’s so easy for kids to get a hold of drugs now. My prayers to the family that lost their loved one.

    For those who were not there it was insane there were so many people you could barley move at one point i saw ems crews coming in and out like clock work… Why do stupid ass drugs at these things… I dont see why you have to roll to hear bad ass music one person died and it could have easily been more… I feel bad for that persons family whats wrong with smokin some bud and just chilling listening to those bass-lines

    I’m a SoCal raver & 16 yrs old, I been raving since I was 12 ,& never have I once pulled ANY of tht type of shiett
    Realistically if yur guna drop, then drop 1! Don’t be Mr.Invincible and drop 3-5 at once,,its common sense

This isn’t about how awesome the party was, it’s about how a 19 year old kid overdosed and died. Does that sound awesome? Didn’t think so. And party people, you can have your fun, you can go and party all you want. But if you don’t calm down and dropping like flies from your stupid drugs, there won’t be any more of these parties for you to go to. You are giving the artists, the performers, the music, and the scene a bad name. Calm down and be responsible.

No, you don’t but the reality of the situation is that there are people that do it anyways, instead of judging them for doing drugs, we should help to make sure that they don’t die because they are dehydrated or too hot.     When you go to walmart there are shitloads of people there on drugs too. Drugs are everywhere, they always have been and always will be and theres nothing we can do to change that fact.
    It’s unfortunate that so many people got hurt because the event planners chose to throw such a huge event when they knew it was going to be the time of year that 100 degree temps are the norm, but it is not their responsibility or securities either that this kid lost his life. Things like this happen every day, the media is responsible for why this is such a tragedy.

    People are always going to do drugs, regardless of age. There is always going to be one person who doesn’t know their limits or who don’t care about popping 5 pills at once. Raves are popular right now because of the music and the “crazy” environment. One day, we’ll all look back and say how crazy raves were back in our era. It’s unfortunate people die at these events but you can’t control what more than 100,000 people do and don’t do. I can’t wait to see how EDC Vegas turns out. ( I will be attending :) ).

    Los Angeles had the chance to set up a model framework on how to throw safe massives and set an example for future events around the country, but instead they forced EDC out which is kinda sad. Here’s a documentary coming out next year showing what LA tried to do to save EDC.

    did u read the report on Las Vegas Mayor’s press conference on EDC Vegas. don’t worry ppl, as long as it makes anymoney EDC is healthy and rocking in vegas. entertainment and money is the only thing that matters in vegas, and even athletes die from exhaustion, the guy may have just pushed himself too hard, we wont ban sports will we. that being said stay safe ppl, i’m scared this could happpen to anyone going hard.

    You put the all the same people on the highway and you would have had more die. Its a shame it happen but overall the event was great. I agree they should reduce the size of the event but there was secruity everywhere. Normal events like this there is pot everywhere and aloto more drug use. Rolling at these events with the heat will have its toll. But I want the scene to continue to grow…. great music and vibe. Trance ON!

    i went to edc/dallas last yr, unfortunately couldnt this yr. but it went off w/out a hitch last yr.. for peeps who dont know edc or have never been should know that its 18 and up. not all ages. drugs r not allowed. and its a ‘festival’ not a rave. no one on here mentioned the carnival rides/food/music and vendors like all other festivals have. know wtf ur talkin shit about b4 u open ur mouth. like the vegas mayor said ‘u misbehave and do things ur not supposed to be doing, bad things will happen’. referring to the 15y/o that od’d in LA last yr. and the only reason its in vegas instead of LA is for that sole reason. edc is a great place to meet people, have a good time, and love life. its unfortunate peeps gota mess it up. and what is w/ dipshits pullin fire alarms? they did that at spring love in atx in april. i guarantee its another dallas promoter whos jealous of insomniac hosting such badass events.and they should NOT be fined for what happenedd last nite. if they wouldve done what the marshall wouldve said, all hell wouldve broken loose and they wouldve had a riot on there hands. you gotta undertand peeps payin 60-70 for a nite thats supposed go from 4pm-? and having to leave b4 that is gonna upset alot, and i mean alot of peeps. more peeps die in 2hrs in dallas than edcx10. its sad edc will prob never continue in dallas cuz of people who push it to the limit.

    as far as i could see the death of this 19 yr old wasnt in this article. and to be honest, as unfortunate as it is that someone died, the EDM scene has come a long way since its adolescent years in the 90s, where multiple deaths were commonplace every weekend. these parties used to be strictly underground and much more dangerous. now we have emts AND a medical area ON SITE. it is tragic that this death had to occur at a party, but its also tragic that the media blows it up like its because of some dark disgusting evil drug infested cesspool of criminals and scum when its probably the best thing to happen to our generation.

    i encourage everyone who intends to party and cares about the scene and loves the music to be selfless and lend a hand to someone who might be in need even if its just finding a staff member and telling them you think someone needs help. its not just about going and having a good time. its about sharing that good time with like minded individuals, about everyone enjoying and sharing a peaceful positive atmosphere to be free. but we need to be responsible…

    This is so sad. My heart goes out to family of the guy involved in this.

    Electronic music is, right now, bringing people together like nothing before it. We all love it and we all love to have a good time. It’s what separates us from the mainstream. It’s what makes us what and who we are. We need to look after ourselves and each other. Whatever scene you are in, it’s you that makes it. Keep an eye on the guy or girl that looks like they may have done too much of something. Take care of yourselves and of each other.

    Maybe an incident such as this, however tragic it may be, will help raise awareness of what people should be doing when they are at a rave or party. Be responsible. You don’t need to be hammered to have a good time. Wouldn’t it be better to be a bit more sober so you can remember that amazing track or those lovely people you met?

    Stay safe guys, it’s not that hard.

    As a EMT for Pomona CA I have taken many children to the ER due to X-od’s. @ the Fox Theater, when i show up to drive the pt to the hospital there friends are nowhere to be found and most of the times security teams finds them. Im not a fan of raves but 18 and over would be the moral way to host an event were drugs are the main attraction i do not feel sorry for adults making poor decisions, but when i take a child to the ER it saddens me. the last LOVE rave @ the fox i took 3 girls under the age of 18 to the ER again no one calmed to know them, one girl was found stage left nude and putting on a show (solo) for a group of 7 Males who were cheering her on and taking photos with there phones. she was 14 years old and her own father had dropped her off @ the party. WTF? i just wanted to share some story’s that i know Ravers know about, but dose not make the press. i feel no sorrow for the 19 year making as a adult decision that ended up in his own death. if you were better parents you kids would stop dieing in my ambulance.

    let me just say that this is not none of edc fault like the kid was 19 he new what he was doing and it was up to him to put those drugs in his mouth no one forced him to take or do drugs n which i pay all my respects to his family ! but really i hope this doesnt effect the raves or edc vegas because of what i think we shouldn’t have to pay for a young mans decisions and hope that the best for his family .!

    Its more than amazing when you use drugs at these festivals. But drugs arnt for everyone, especially if its in the hands of those who arnt smart enough to use with caution. No offense to anyone but its those who ignorantly use drugs end up in these situations and screw up the fun for those who can hold there own and are responsible.

    This sucks and i feel bad for the young man that died as well as his family and friends. I attended the Vegas Show all three days our biggest problem was dehydration. i dont think people who havent been exposed to extreme heat like that were prepaired for it. Mixing heat with drugs not a good thing like alcohol, heat can intensify drugs… Becareful when your out there raving it up. VEGAS WAS TITS 3 DAYSSS

    Also Insomniac heres to you for one the fastest check in process into EDC LV! everything ran smoothly from parking to getting into the venue with multiple entrances around actually scanning ID cards to make sure they were legit, the multiple undercorver, security and LVPD’s you had patroling the grounds i really felt safe! EDC LV by far the best EDC ever… and no-one died…

    You know…It’s really hard to just overdose on drugs at a rave and overdosing on E doesn’t really have much of a president outside of previous medical conditions, such as seizures and scripted mao-I interactions. Maybe back in the early 00′s when they had a thing for cutting it with dxm? but nowadays it’s so watered down I’m surprized kids even roll anymore.

    What is easy to do at a rave is have a heat stroke. Especially when people like insomniac care more about cramming people into a venue than safety. If they hit capacity or slightly under capacity and just…stopped letting people in…or like…gave a $hit…Insomniac is a disease and it’s time to stop feeding their wallets until they learn they can’t just do whatever they want and blame it on the kids. KIDS ARE STUPID! Is this a news flash? It’s the production company’s JOB to give stupid kids a place to be stupid. Not shove them into a overheated room until they die of heat stroke.
